Early Fall Record Haul

Last weekend, Stan and I went for a Sunday sushi and excursion the other day. Our only major investment for the evening (outside of our bellies) was a pretty good haul at Omega Records. And I always enjoy sharing record covers with ya'll. So here 'tis.

Stan awoke from his afternoon nap to my booming rendition of Ole Man River.

Perfect fall piano. And look at those paws!
Do you know these people? You should. I promise they aren't twerking.
A highlight from Nerds would be the titular song. I've loved these gals for awhile, wooed through another self titled album featuring harmonies that hurt a little they're so pleasantly, & humanly dissident.
Never had any Rush, before.
Biggest investment, and great payout. Love Jazz in the fall. Or whenever else.
Good snag, husband. (Have you seen the amazing inner sleeve from this one?)
Dave and chums do it again. (53 years ago)
Bought this one for those days when I need some real patriotic music.
"Fatha" Hines' stuff is easy to find and fun to hear. He ambles casually through jazz favs.
I got this because it has Marshmallow World on it.... so sue me.
I love listening to these records in our new home. The little crackles sound like popping kindling and almost make me believe we have a working fireplace.

Hand-me-down music is the best.

Some guy (gal?) named Schumpert's collection (see his John Hancock on the Charlie Parker cover?) was recently added to the shelves. I could tell through a few minutes of flipping that he'd spent years collecting and listening to jazz especially. Think of all that record flipping! And now I'm flipping his record. I hope that if he's still around, he's still listening, just to a different format. But maybe he's not around. And I hope one day when I'm not around someone will continue to listen to my collection as well.

Tippacanoe & Old Stuff Too! (or) Antique Antics 2

A picture diary of a fun pre-valentine's day gift: a day with some lovely gals doing something I love to do! Mostly, this is a look-what-I-found entry. Bear with me. Ooh and ahh if you wanna.

The antique shop we visited had a great selection of creepy dolls, as shown in these pictures. And check out that awesome Santa Claus washing basin and pitcher.

It seems odd to me that someone would want to collect creepy doll heads and display them in their home. But then again, I come from an odd family, so who's to judge.

When I was a child, my mother kept her doll collection in a large glass-doored curio-cabinet in my bedroom. I used to sneak into the drawer at the bottom of the locked cabinet. I would shuffle open a brittle box and inside? A beautiful, pristine original Barbie in a black and white swimming suit. Her hair was so soft, like the underside of a puppies ear. The other dolls in the collection included some Madame Alexanders and several dolls collected by her mother and grandmother during international travels. I always felt like their little eyes were watching me sleep.

And now, for the booty that came home with me. No creepy over-sized clowns made it into my shopping basket. But I did come home with three awesome things:

Wanna come visit me and go shopping? It could be arranged. I have a guest room.

Antiquing Antics

Mondays are the new Saturdays in my life. So far, since I have yet to settle into my new schedule, my days off have been reserved for recuperating. (and blogging!) This week, I went on a little outing by myself and did a little prepping for the apartment I have yet to find.

When I stopped by the little (nameless) antique shop in Farmersville, the guy turned on the lights and furnace for me. I was his first customer of the day at around 1pm. The space isn't easily heated. His plan is to sell the shop once the snow flies. I wanted to contribute to the local economy while I could.

Turns out there were several shiny objects there to catch my eye. The tea strainer is large enough to do a whole pot of loose leaf. I'm excited for the new doors this will open in my tea-drinking life. The silver basket may end up on a wall, it's so pretty!

Other gems from the shopping day's "work"(not necessarily antiques- why limit the buying power?):

A) Two of my favorite movies on VHS.
B) Nautical Gap Shoes.
C) Superhero glassware that I simply couldn't pass up.

This post is the blog equivalent to the show-and-tell that concludes every successful day of shopping in my household. Sometimes I like to spread the goods all over the floor and just stare at them all. So sue me, sometimes I'm really into materialism. Especially cute, vintage materials.
